@MrMJ49 interview

At what age did you decide to become an artist?

I started out writing gospel music and poetry when I was 10 years old, which was the leading influence to me creating Hip-hop and R&B by the time I was 14, which I feel I’m still perfecting to this day, even though I’ve expanded to creating music for all types of genres.

Name a few of your biggest influences in hip hop?

2Pac and Biggie are 2 of my biggest influences as most artist, but The Dungeon Family definitely inspired MJ49, from Outkast, to Goodie Mob, to Organized Noise. They put Atlanta on the map and on top of that they were musicians with substance, so that definitely inspired me. And of course Luda and T.I. taught me how to mesh 808 music to music with substance.

What are some of the things you're working on right now?

I’m preparing to release my project titled “Everythings All Good” with my DJ, DJPrincessCut and Hoodrich, & I’m focused on making sure that it catches plenty of ears and turns plenty of heads. I’m also writing for some up and coming artist and preparing to start my writing company, and I have to say that came from watching the success of Ray Daniels (Head of A & R at Epic).

What advice can you give other upcoming artists?

Advice I have for upcoming artists, just follow your dreams, block out haters and those with negative energy, never give up even when things seem at their worst, and most importantly Keep the Faith!

How has life changed for you since becoming an artist?

Every day I see people that didn’t follow their dreams that are always saying what if, but I’m a living witness as to what happens when you never lose your drive. I’m constantly meeting people I only dreamed of meeting, let alone gearing up to work with. Everyday provides a new blessing when you never give up.

Have you had the pleasure of performing yet?

I’ve definitely had the chance to perform, whether it being for Hoodrich DJs, a crowd of new listeners, or even for some major players in the industry, I’m usually near someones stage, and I’m sure that’s about to increase dramatically over the next few months due to my hand being in so many pots.

Are there any artists/talent that you've worked with that we should be watching?

Keep your eye on my DJ, SweetBoxJones aka DJPrincessCut, she’s doing big things, and she’s definitely one of my number 1 supporters, but she’s a go getter and shes definitely getting it. Also look out for key contributors on my album from VH1’s Bambi(the song we have together is a classic) to DJBishop and ATLTop20, to EXPress and Bradman whom I started this Feel Good Music with. When my project is released just go through my credits because some very talented people will be on there. And stay tuned to see the hits I write for some of your favorite artist, I have a lot of surprises on the way. Thank you for your time, and follow me @MrMJ49 and check out MrMJ49.com
